Anchor Church files plans for a $6.5 million children's wing on Community Avenue

Anchor Church, which moved into its first building on Community Avenue in 2023, has filed plans with the state for a large children's addition.

The project, logged in the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation's accessibility registry, is titled "Achor Church Children's Addition," a misspelling of the church's name in the filing. It describes a children's wing of about 25,000 square feet added to the existing building at 3921 Community Ave., with an estimated cost of $6.5 million.

The scope of work states that the wing would contain religious classrooms only, with "no daycare or educational occupancy." The filing lists Oct. 1, 2026, as the start date and Sept. 1, 2027, as the completion date. Senior pastor Jeff Jenkins is listed as the owner contact, and the project is privately funded.

Second phase

When the nondenominational church opened its building in March 2023, near the new Collin County Courthouse, it described that 26,200-square-foot church as the first phase of an $11.5 million project. The building had 600 seats and room for 150 children, according to a KCBI report at the time.

Church leaders said then that a second phase would grow the campus to 55,000 square feet, with room for more than 1,300 adults and more than 400 children per service. Those 2023 plans also mentioned a preschool for 270 to 300 students. The new filing does not include a preschool and says the wing will not be used for daycare or school.

The state record does not say how many children the new wing would hold, whether the church still plans other parts of the second phase or whether work has started. The registry listed the project's plan review as complete when checked Tuesday. The church's website was offline when checked.
