The first construction price for expanding Collin County's courts building in McKinney is headed to county commissioners Monday: $5,749,173 for site work and drilled piers.

Listed among consent items for the Commissioners Court's Oct. 19 session, the amendment would set a guaranteed maximum price with Crossland Construction Company, the construction manager the county already hired for the Collin County Courthouse Expansion. The project is at the Russell A. Steindam Courts Building, 2100 Bloomdale Road.

What this first package buys

County purchasing staff wrote that this price covers only civil site work and drilled piers, as detailed in the contractor's proposal. Under the construction-manager-at-risk arrangement, the county takes bids from trade contractors in stages and brings each new price package to the court for approval as the design moves along, according to the memo.

Any change the county or the city asks for that would raise the price has to go back to commissioners first.

The amendment sets Nov. 5, 2026, as the start date for the work and Jan. 16, 2029, as the substantial completion date. Crossland, based on Industry Way in Prosper, was picked earlier as the best-evaluated proposer, according to the county.

Budget and auditor notes on the item say the money comes from the county's 2023 bond funds.

The court's regular session starts at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the county administration building at 2300 Bloomdale Road. Consent items can pass in one motion, though any commissioner may pull one for separate discussion.
