Two events tied to MillHouse, the McKinney nonprofits that support women working in creative businesses, fill Saturday, Oct. 10, one at the historic Cotton Mill and the other on the downtown square.
Makers Market at the Cotton Mill
The monthly MillHouse Makers Market runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Cotton Mill Atrium Hallway, just outside the MillHouse suites. Visit McKinney lists the address as 610 Elm St. The market is held indoors.
According to MillHouse, sellers bring handmade jewelry, candles, sourdough bread, chocolate, fiber art, plants, photography, ceramics, leather goods, woodwork and upcycled decor. Local Profile's weekend guide counted 38 makers for this month's market. White Box Roastery, next door in the mill, sells coffee, tea, smoothies and pastries.
MillHouse credits funding and in-kind support from the Cotton Mill's arts district, the McKinney Community Development Corporation, the McKinney Arts Commission and the Texas Commission on the Arts. The market returns Nov. 14 and Dec. 12, according to the organization's schedule.
Art and wine on the square
Across downtown, Landon Winery at 101 N. Kentucky St. hosts an Art and Wine Stroll from noon to 6 p.m. that benefits MillHouse McKinney. General admission is $35 plus tax and includes fifteen 1-ounce wine tastings at participating merchants around the square, with a bonus taste at the winery. Guests also browse work by MillHouse artists, including a reception in the gallery inside Landon Winery.
General admission check-in runs in two windows, 11:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. A $45 VIP ticket adds an 11 a.m. early reception with a mimosa bar, a charcuterie table, time with the featured artists and a 10% discount on art bought during the reception.
The event listing says tickets are limited and not refundable, and ticket holders can enter a drawing for an art prize and a wine experience.
