McKinney, Texas — A pair of roster additions went through for the Dallas Mavericks on July 6, as trades for Santi Aldama and Marcus Sasser became official. ESPN reported the Aldama deal with Memphis, while Marc Stein linked Dallas to Sasser from Detroit.
Aldama, a 7-foot forward, comes over from the Grizzlies having posted 14 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game last season, all career highs. He connected on 35 percent of his threes. The 25-year-old increased his scoring average in each of his five seasons with the club.
Dallas gave up AJ Johnson, a protected 2030 first-round pick via Golden State, two future second-rounders, and acquired the draft rights to Tarik Biberovic, who plays in EuroLeague and the Turkish Basketball Super League.
Sasser, a guard, was the 25th overall pick in the 2023 draft by Detroit. He recorded 5.2 points and 2.0 assists across 38 games and shot 41.5 percent from three-point range. Stein reported that the same Warriors 2030 first-round selection, obtained by Dallas in the Anthony Davis trade, was the key asset used to complete both Mavericks moves.
