Sixth-Inning Surge
The Houston Astros turned a close contest into a decisive victory with a massive offensive outburst in the sixth inning. Trailing 5-4 entering the frame, Houston erupted for six runs, breaking the White Sox hold and seizing control of the game at Rate Field.
The rally began when Kyle Tucker singled to right, allowing Yordan Alvarez to score. The momentum continued as Kris Bryant Walker doubled to left, driving in three more runs to put Houston ahead 7-5. Alex Bregman Smith then homered to left, a 383-foot shot that extended the lead to 9-5.
The inning concluded with Jose Altuve reaching on an infield single and a walk from Tucker that brought in the final run of the frame.
Early White Sox Lead
Chicago had built a 5-0 lead earlier in the game, capitalizing on Houston pitching struggles. The White Sox struck first in the top of the first inning. Connor Montgomery hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Andrew Vaughn. Later in the inning, Luis Robert Jr. singled to right, scoring Andrew Benintendi, and later added another run via a hit-by-pitch that scored Andrew Benintendi.
The White Sox added insurance in the fifth inning. Andrew Benintendi scored on a wild pitch by Houston pitcher Kai-Wei Teng. Another wild pitch by Teng allowed Benintendi to score again, though the box score lists this as a separate scoring event for Benintendi. Luis Robert Jr. then doubled to center, scoring Andrew Benintendi, making the score 5-0.
