Decisive Rally
The Houston Astros secured an 8-6 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night, driven by a critical two-run double in the eighth inning. Kyle Paredes provided the decisive blow, doubling to right field to score both himself and teammate J.J. Piceno, breaking a 6-6 tie and giving Houston the lead it would not relinquish.
The game began with the Astros jumping out to an early 2-0 advantage in the second inning. Alex Bregman homered to left field, measuring 380 feet, which also drove in Kyle Tucker. The Tigers responded in the third inning, first scoring on a groundout by Spencer Torkelson that allowed Matt Manning to score, making it 3-0.
However, Detroit quickly took control later in the same frame. Riley Greene launched a home run to right-center field (390 feet), a three-run shot that tied the game at 3-3 before the Tigers surged ahead 4-3 on a single by Torkelson.
Detroit extended their lead to 4-3 in the fourth when Torkelson doubled to left, scoring one more run, and then to 6-4 in the fifth when Greene homered to left-center (369 feet).
Astros Claw Back
Houston began its comeback in the seventh inning. Tucker singled to left, allowing Bregman to score and cut the deficit to 6-5. The tying run arrived in the eighth inning. Piceno singled to center, and despite a fielding error by Tigers center fielder Riley Greene that allowed Piceno to advance to second and Tucker to third, the inning remained tied until Paredes’ double.
The Astros’ bullpen held firm after taking the lead. AJ Blubaugh earned the win, pitching two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Bryan King recorded the save, pitching a perfect frame with one strikeout. Josh Hader closed the game with a scoreless ninth, earning his seventh save of the season.
