Late Inning Surge
The Houston Astros overcame a significant deficit by scoring four runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Los Angeles Angels 6-4 on Tuesday at Angel Stadium. The victory improved Houston’s record to 53-55, while the Angels fell to 42-65.
The Angels had built a comfortable 4-0 lead through the third inning, fueled by early scoring against Houston’s starting pitcher. Cristian Javier took the loss after allowing one earned run over five innings, striking out seven batters while holding Los Angeles to three hits and no walks. However, the Angels’ offense exploded early against Javier’s counterparts.
Schanuel drove in Neto with a sacrifice fly to center field in the first inning, followed by Grissom singling in Trout. Grissom extended the lead in the third with a 395-foot home run to left center, and Adell added another run with a double that scored Lowe.
Houston began chipping away at the deficit in the fourth inning when Trammell hit a 412-foot home run to center field, making the score 4-1. The Astros continued to apply pressure in the eighth inning when Alvarez singled to left, bringing Peña home to make it 4-2.
Ninth Inning Breakdown
The game turned decisively in the bottom of the ninth. With the Angels’ bullpen holding the lead, the Astros loaded the bases through a combination of an error and a hit-by-pitch. Spence grounded into a fielder’s choice, but Trammell scored on an error by second baseman Grissom.
Allen was then safe at second and third on additional fielding errors by Grissom. Paredes was subsequently hit by a pitch, scoring Spence after the Angels challenged the call, which was upheld.
