Late Relief Seals Close Contest
Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader combined to pitch the final two innings of scoreless relief, helping the Houston Astros edge the Texas Rangers 5-4 on Saturday at Daikin Park. The victory improves Houston’s record to 57-55, while the Texas Rangers fall to 55-56.
The game remained tight through most of the afternoon until a chaotic fourth inning shifted momentum. After the Rangers took a 3-2 lead in the third, Houston answered with a flurry of offense in the fourth. Jose Altuve and Adolis Garcia drove in runs via a single by Yordan Alvarez and an infield single by Marcus Semien.
However, Texas regained the lead when Corey Seager scored on a wild pitch by Astros reliever Steven Okert. The Rangers then added another run on a subsequent wild pitch by Okert, making it 5-3 Texas after challenges to the calls were upheld.
Offensive Highlights and Scoring Plays
The Rangers struck first in the second inning when Corey Seager singled to right field, allowing Jose Altuve to score. Texas tied the game in the third on a solo home run by Adolis Garcia to left field. The Rangers took their first lead later in the third when Marcus Semien singled to left, scoring two runs.
Houston’s offense rallied in the fourth inning. Yordan Alvarez singled to right, bringing in one run. A sacrifice bunt by Jose Altuve scored another runner.
The tying run came on an infield single by Marcus Semien, followed by a wild pitch that allowed Corey Seager to score. Despite the Rangers’ late surge, the Astros tied the game in the sixth inning when Yordan Alvarez homered to right field, his second extra-base hit of the game.
