Murakami’s Historic Offensive Display
Austin Murakami delivered a historic offensive performance, hitting four home runs to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 12-3 victory over the Houston Astros at Rate Field. The slugger’s efforts included two multi-run home runs and a crucial two-RBI single, driving in six of the team’s twelve runs.
His dominance was the primary catalyst for the White Sox, who improved their record to 55-49, while the Astros fell to 52-55.
Early Inning Surge Sets Tone
The White Sox struck first in the top of the first inning when Peña launched a 393-foot home run to left field, giving Chicago a 1-0 lead. Houston responded in the bottom of the frame with a two-run blast of their own, as Antonacci scored on Murakami’s 385-foot homer to left. However, the momentum shifted back to the home team in the third inning.
Peña connected again, this time sending a ball 394 feet to right center to tie the game at 2-2. Shortly after, Murakami grounded out to second, allowing Romo to score and giving the White Sox a 3-2 advantage.
Trammell and Vargas Extend Lead
The game remained tight through the middle innings until the White Sox began to pull away. In the fifth inning, Trammell homered to center field, extending the lead to 4-3. The gap widened significantly in the sixth inning when Vargas launched a 393-foot home run to left, with Antonacci scoring to make it 5-3.
The White Sox offense exploded in the seventh inning. Meidroth hit a 382-foot home run to left center, followed by Murakami’s two-RBI single to center field that scored Romo and Perez. Benintendi added an RBI single to left, pushing the score to 9-3.
Closing Out the Game
The scoring continued in the eighth inning. Perez homered to left, scoring Meidroth to make it 11-3. Murakami completed his four-homer game with a 398-foot home run to right center, finalizing the 12-3 score.
On the mound, Sean Newcomb earned the win for Chicago, pitching 0.2 innings with no earned runs allowed. Grant Taylor secured the save with a perfect inning of relief. Erick Fedde took the loss for the Astros, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing five earned runs. The game drew an attendance of 32,581 fans to Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois.
