Clement’s 10th-inning homer sends Blue Jays past Astros, 5-4

Clement breaks tie in extras

Clement put Toronto ahead with a two-run homer to left in the top of the 10th inning, sending the Blue Jays past the Houston Astros 5-4 on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Daikin Park.

The drive went 391 feet and brought in Urías, moving Toronto from a 3-3 tie to a 5-3 lead. Houston answered in the bottom of the 10th when Alvarez singled to right and Peña scored. Alvarez was out stretching at second, and Houston’s challenge of the call was upheld.

Houston takes control in the third

Houston scored all of its early runs in the bottom of the third. Altuve opened the scoring with a 401-foot homer to left for a 1-0 lead.

Walker followed with a double to left that scored Varsho, and Wade Jr. singled to center to bring in Walker. Those three scoring plays gave the Astros a 3-0 advantage.

Jameson Taillon allowed three earned runs on six hits and two walks in four innings for Toronto, striking out four. Hunter Brown worked six innings for Houston, giving up three earned runs on three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.

Toronto ties it in the sixth

The Blue Jays pulled even in the top of the sixth. Okamoto singled to center to score Straw, cutting Houston’s lead to 3-1.

Sánchez then hit a 398-foot homer to right, with Okamoto scoring on the play, to tie the game at 3. The game’s three home runs came from Altuve, Sánchez and Clement.

Pitching lines and records

Spencer Miles pitched two innings for Toronto, allowing two hits with no earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts. Mason Fluharty worked one inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts. Tyler Rogers allowed one hit in one inning with no earned runs and no walks.

Louis Varland earned the win, improving to 4-4, after one inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout. Chase Lee recorded his first save after allowing one hit with no earned runs and no walks in one inning.

For Houston, Steven Okert, Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader each pitched one inning without allowing a hit or an earned run. Bennett Sousa took the loss, falling to 0-1, after allowing two hits and one earned run in one inning.

The announced attendance was 27,751. Houston is 59-57, and Toronto is 54-61.
