A Second-Half Surge Changes Everything
The Houston Cougars overcame a double-digit halftime deficit to secure a 27-17 victory over the UCF Knights on Saturday night at TDECU Stadium. The turning point arrived in the third quarter, where Conner Weigman ignited a scoring rally that ultimately decided the outcome at home.
Entering the final period trailing 10-0, Houston found its rhythm behind Weigman’s arm and legs. The Cougars exploded for 27 points in the second half, including three rushing touchdowns by their quarterback, to erase the deficit and pull away in the fourth quarter with two field goals from Jonathan Dimas.
Keyone Jenkins Leads UCF Early
UCF controlled the opening half, building a commanding lead behind Keyone Jenkins. The Knights opened the scoring in the first quarter when Jenkins connected with Josh Derry on a 13-yard pass for a touchdown. Will Stone’s extra point gave UCF a 7-0 advantage.
The Knights extended their lead early in the second quarter when Stone drilled a 30-yard field goal, making the score 10-0 at halftime. Jenkins finished his outing with 253 passing yards on 23-of-35 passing, along with one touchdown and one interception. Duke Watson contributed 50 rushing yards on nine carries, while Derry led all receivers with seven catches for 101 yards and the early touchdown.
