McKinney ISD announced Oct. 6 that it has received an Outstanding School District nomination in H-E-B’s Excellence in Education Awards program.

The district said its Board of Trustees and several principals, school counselors and teachers also received nominations. The announcement did not identify the individual educators.

H-E-B’s program accepts nominations from the public and uses a separate application and judging process to select finalists and winners. Its 2027 nomination period ended Sept. 30. Applications are due Nov. 1, 2026, and supporting letters from an applicant’s principal or administrator are due Nov. 4, according to the program’s FAQ.

The company says judges drawn from education and community leadership across Texas will select the finalists and winners. An awards ceremony is planned for spring 2027 in Austin.

For the 2027 cycle, H-E-B has announced prizes of $150,000 for the winning large school district, $75,000 for the winning small district and $50,000 for the winning school board.
