McKinney ISD says its total property tax rate has declined for five consecutive years, dropping nearly 28% since the 2021-22 school year.
According to a district announcement posted Oct. 8, the total rate fell from $1.4747 per $100 of taxable property value in 2021-22 to $1.0664 for 2026-27, a reduction of more than 40 cents. The 2026-27 rate is about 3.8 cents lower than last year's $1.1043.
McKinney ISD said the five-year decline reflects changes in the district's tax rate as it continues to fund educational programs, staffing, facility maintenance and daily operations. The district also noted that individual property tax bills can still rise or fall based on changes in appraised values, exemptions and other factors, even when the rate itself goes down.
The district's property tax rate has two parts: Maintenance and Operations, which pays for day-to-day operations, and Interest and Sinking, which repays voter-approved bonds. McKinney ISD pointed families to its election page for more information about the upcoming district election.
