A tragic accident on Custer Road in McKinney resulted in the deaths of Sandi and William Lazarus, both 77, who were well-known in the Allen ISD community. The couple was involved in a collision while pulling into their neighborhood, where their vehicle was struck by another car.
The driver and passengers of the other vehicle, an orange BMW, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a hospital.
William Lazarus served as the attendance clerk at Ereckson Middle School, while Sandi had recently retired after working as an instructional aide at Lindsey Elementary. Kim McLaughlin, acting superintendent of Allen ISD, expressed condolences, stating, "This loss is weighing on my heart, as I know it is for many across our Allen ISD family."
Witnesses reported that the crash was severe enough to shake nearby homes. Caleb White, a neighbor, recognized the Lazarus vehicle and hoped for their safe return, recalling that his children often played in their yard. He noted that speeding has been a persistent issue on Custer Road, raising concerns about safety at the intersection where the crash occurred.
Following the incident, some neighbors are advocating for the installation of a stoplight at the intersection to enhance safety. The McKinney police have stated that the investigation into the crash is ongoing, and no charges have yet been filed. They are encouraging anyone with information to reach out to the department's Crime Tip Line.
