McKinney National Airport is set to welcome its first commercial airline carrier, with Avelo Airlines scheduled to launch operations on Wednesday, November 11. The carrier intends to offer nonstop routes to Las Vegas, Nevada, as well as four destinations in Florida: Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, and Tampa.

The airline, which describes itself as the first new commercial carrier in the United States in 15 years, stated that the new base will generate more than 100 jobs. Avelo Airlines was established in 2021 and currently operates flights to 37 destinations across 15 states, along with two locations in Puerto Rico.

Pricing for the new service begins at $99 for one-way tickets. Passengers who complete their bookings through the airline before August will receive one free checked bag. The carrier highlighted its strategy of providing low fares and emphasizing convenience for travelers.

Andrew Levy, the founder and chief executive officer of Avelo Airlines, expressed enthusiasm about becoming the launch and anchor carrier at the facility. He cited the airline’s low fares, the ease of using the airport, and its on-time performance record as key benefits for customers.

Local officials have welcomed the development. McKinney Mayor Bill Cox thanked the airline for its confidence in the regional market and its investment in the airport. He noted that the new service provides exciting nonstop options for the community.

Ken Carley, the director of McKinney National Airport, stated that travelers can expect to save both time and money by flying from their local facility. He emphasized the airline’s commitment to serving the area’s travel needs.

McKinney National Airport has been in operation since 1979. The airline plans to position itself as an affordable alternative for North Texas passengers seeking commercial air service.
