Commercial passenger flights have officially commenced at McKinney National Airport, with Avelo Airlines launching its inaugural nonstop routes. This development marks the first time the facility has offered commercial airline service, transitioning it from a general aviation site to a hub for scheduled passenger travel.

The initial schedule connects the airport to five locations: Daytona Beach and Destin/Fort Walton Beach in Florida; Long Island/Islip in New York; Santa Rosa in California; and Wilmington, Delaware, which serves the Philadelphia region.

Airport officials describe the launch as a significant milestone for one of North Texas' fastest-growing areas, aiming to provide residents with an alternative to driving to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport or Dallas Love Field.

The service follows months of planning and community engagement, including earlier events that allowed residents to view aircraft. Alongside the new flights, the airport is proceeding with a $79 million passenger terminal project designed to support future expansion with modern amenities and security screening. Officials anticipate additional airline partnerships and route growth as the terminal nears completion and demand increases.
