A manufacturing plant in McKinney that produces shades for recreational vehicles will close permanently as operations shift to Indiana. The move affects 54 workers at the MCD Innovations facility, a division of Airxcel, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) letter submitted to the state.
Layoffs for the affected staff will begin on September 14. The final day of employment for these workers is scheduled for October 31, which coincides with the completion of the operational relocation. The company stated that the consolidation allows it to serve customers more effectively by centralizing production.
Airxcel Chief Executive Anthony Wollschlager described the decision as a strategic investment in customer service capabilities. He noted that integrating MCD Innovations into the Elkhart location will improve collaboration and responsiveness for key accounts. Products from MCD Innovations will retain their current branding and distribution channels despite the physical move.
The new home for these operations is Elkhart, Indiana, a city near South Bend with a population of approximately 50,000. The area generates more than 80 percent of American recreational vehicles and is widely recognized as the center of RV manufacturing. Airxcel aims to streamline supply chain coordination by placing MCD products closer to this production hub.
United Shade, another brand within the Airxcel portfolio, already operates in Elkhart. The parent company, based in Wichita, Kansas, acquired MCD Innovations in 2016. The McKinney division was originally founded there in 2003 before relocating to its current building in 2010.
