Avelo Airlines has been selected as the inaugural carrier for McKinney National Airport, with commercial service launching in November. The five-year-old budget carrier will establish a base at the facility, housing two Boeing 737-800 aircraft and approximately 100 crew members.
The airline announced five initial nonstop destinations, all targeting leisure travelers. Flights to Las Vegas, Fort Lauderdale, Southwest Florida, Orlando, and Tampa will begin in November, with specific start dates ranging from Nov. 11 to Nov. 19. Frequencies vary by route, with some services operating four or five times per week.
The airport, located in Collin County, is situated roughly 30 miles from both Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field. City leaders have worked for years to convert the former general aviation field into a commercial hub, breaking ground on a 46,000-square-foot terminal last summer. Tickets for the new routes are now available for purchase.
