The Soul Patrol Foundation held its sixth annual Juneteenth Bicycle Rally in downtown McKinney on Saturday, drawing hundreds of participants from across North Texas. The event combined cycling with celebrations of Juneteenth history, aiming to promote physical fitness and community engagement.
Riders gathered near McKinney City Hall for a day that included music, food, and family-oriented activities. Participants could select from four supported routes ranging from 12 to 66 miles through McKinney and surrounding areas in Collin County. Organizers noted that while weather conditions shifted early in the day, the event concluded safely as the weather improved and cyclists finished their courses.
Attendees enjoyed performances by DJ TDK and access to various food vendors. The foundation credited the success of the rally to sponsors, volunteers, and public safety agencies. Major supporters included Toyota, Medical City Healthcare, Cadence Cyclery, Carrier, North Star Diagnostic Imaging, Credit Union of Texas, Majic 94.5 FM, Prosperity Bank, and H-E-B, alongside numerous local businesses and community groups.
The Soul Patrol Foundation described the rally as an inclusive gathering for families, recreational cyclists, competitive riders, and first-time participants. Since its establishment, the nonprofit has focused on expanding cycling access, supporting education, and providing community service. The organization has distributed over $75,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors, donated bicycles to youth in underserved communities, and promoted health initiatives throughout North Texas.
Hillis Davis, co-founder of the Soul Patrol Foundation, stated that the event provides an opportunity to learn and improve each year. Davis expressed gratitude to the cyclists, volunteers, sponsors, and public safety partners who contributed to the rally's success. Planning for the seventh annual event is already in progress, with organizers anticipating more participants in 2027.
