McKinney Library hosts adult Chinese tea ceremony in September

The McKinney Public Library System will host an adults-only Chinese Tea Ceremony on Saturday, September 12, 2026. The event is scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the John and Judy Gay Library. The program is presented by the Texas Women Society and is designed for adults to experience a traditional Chinese tea ceremony.

The event structure includes a 15-minute welcome and expectations session, followed by a 15-minute presentation about the Chinese Tea Ceremony. The main portion of the evening is a 90-minute tea ceremony led by a tea master, which includes tea tasting and a tea snack. The program concludes with a 15-minute social and question-and-answer period.

The library states that the program goals are to present diverse perspectives, leverage community partnerships to offer specialized knowledge, and serve the diverse needs and interests of the community.

The presenters include Jennie Shen, Bo Luo, Muping Wu, Hong Fei, Fang Wang, and Catherine Chen. Muping Wu noted having over 20 years of experience in Chinese tea, including time spent in the tea mountains of Yunnan. Catherine Chen described tea as medicine that holds the five elements, five colors, five organs, and five meridians.

Other presenters expressed interest in sharing mindfulness, the impact of tea on well-being, and the connection between ancient tea rituals and contemporary wellness.

Residents interested in attending must select a ticket quantity based on the number of participants. The announcement notes that this is an online event and that the online event URL will be sent to registrants. The Roy & Helen Hall Memorial library is currently closed for renovations, with holds and returns available at the John & Judy Gay Library and McKinney City Hall.
