McKinney Library offers online gardening workshop for adults

The McKinney Public Library System will host a gardening workshop for adults on Thursday, September 3, 2026. The session, titled "First Time Gardening (Adults)," is designed for individuals who wish to grow their own plants but are unsure where to begin. Participants will learn how to start growing plants in various spaces, including backyards, balconies, or sunny windowsills.

The event is presented by the McKinney Office of Environmental Sustainability. The program aims to leverage community partnerships to offer specialized knowledge, launch discovery and self-directed learning, and foster community involvement and relationship building.

Mary Abercrombie, an Outreach and Engagement Coordinator for the City of McKinney’s Office of Environmental Sustainability, will lead the presentation. Abercrombie leads community education efforts focused on water conservation and air quality. She is also a Texas Master Naturalist and a founding member of the East McKinney Learning Garden, where she helps create hands-on opportunities for the community to connect with nature.

The workshop is scheduled from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Although the event is listed with a location at the John and Judy Gay Library, the registration details specify that this is an online event. The online event URL will be sent to registrants in an email confirming their registration. The session includes a 45-minute presentation followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer period.

Registration is required to attend. Currently, there are no seats available, but a waiting list is open. Attendees must consent to the use of their voice, name, and/or likeness in promotional materials without compensation.

By attending, participants release the City of McKinney assignees and licensees from any liability. Individuals who do not wish to be subject to these terms are advised not to attend the event.
