McKinney Library offers free genealogy support for adults

The McKinney Public Library System is offering free, in-person genealogy office hours for adults, providing individualized support from partners at the North Collin County Genealogical Society. The sessions are scheduled for Sunday, September 6, 2026, Sunday, October 4, 2026, and Sunday, November 1, 2026. Each session will run from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the John and Judy Gay Library.

The program aims to serve the diverse needs and interests of the community by launching discovery and self-directed learning. It also leverages community partnerships to offer specialized knowledge. The Collin County Genealogical Society, which is presenting the sessions, states its mission is to support researchers of all levels through educational programs, workshops, seminars, preservation, publication, and library support.

The society describes itself as passionate about helping people uncover their family history.

Registration is required for these events, with 50 seats available. Participants must select the number of attendees during the registration process. Although the event is listed as in-person at the John and Judy Gay Library, the registration form includes a note stating that an online event URL will be sent via email confirming registration.

Attendees must provide their full name, address, and email address to register.

By attending, participants consent to the use of their voice, name, and/or likeness in promotional materials without compensation. They also release the City of McKinney and its assignees and licensees from liability. The Roy and Helen Hall Memorial Library is currently closed for renovations, but holds and returns are available at the John and Judy Gay Library and McKinney City Hall.
