McKinney Launches Water Conservation Initiative with 'Water Is Awesome'

The City of McKinney has introduced a new water conservation program called "Water Is Awesome" to help residents appreciate and conserve water. This initiative aims to ensure that there is enough water available for future generations.

As part of the program, the city has launched a Water-Saving Video Library that includes instructional videos on landscaping, lawn care, and the use of native plants.

The videos provide guidance on how to effectively water lawns, emphasizing a simple approach: water once a week if the lawn needs a little moisture, twice a week during hot and dry conditions, and not at all if it has rained or rain is forecasted.

Residents are encouraged to check their sprinkler systems monthly to identify leaks and ensure efficient watering. The program also offers a free Weekly Watering Advice service, which sends subscribers an email or text each week detailing how much to water their lawns.

Additionally, the "Texas Yard Makeover" series within the initiative provides tips on creating beautiful, water-efficient landscapes. This includes using native plants that require less water and implementing smart landscape designs.
