The City of McKinney has provided residents with comprehensive guidelines for its residential trash and recycling services. The city offers a fully automated collection service once a week to single-family households within city limits that maintain water billing accounts in good standing. Each eligible household receives one gray cart for trash and one blue cart for recyclables.
The city notes that only these specific carts will be serviced. Residents living outside city limits or in Extra-Territorial Jurisdictions, such as Trinity Falls, do not qualify for this service, even if they have city water utilities.
Residents must have their gray carts set out and ready for collection by 7 a.m. on their designated collection day. Carts may be placed out as early as 6 p.m. the day prior to pickup. To ensure proper collection, carts must be placed at least three feet apart from other carts, containers, bulky material, yard waste, mailboxes, vehicles, utility meters, poles, and fences.
All trash must be inside the gray cart with the lid closed. Items left outside the cart will not be collected. The front of the cart, displaying the serial number, should face the street, with the handle facing the house.
