Texas Tech has secured a non-conference football opponent for the 2030 season by adding Texas State to its schedule. The Red Raiders will host the Bobcats at home on Sept. 14, 2030, according to a report from FBSchedules.com that cited a contract obtained through an open-records request.
Under the terms of the agreement, Texas Tech is obligated to pay Texas State a game guarantee of $1.2 million. This addition completes the Red Raiders' non-conference slate for that year. The 2030 season will begin with a trip to Las Vegas to face Arkansas at Allegiant Stadium on Aug. 31.
The team will then host Fresno State on Sept. 7, one week before the Texas State matchup.
Despite filling the 2030 slot, the program still requires one non-conference opponent for each of the years 2027, 2028, and 2029. The need to secure multiple future games on a compressed timeline stems from several recent scheduling changes involving other institutions.
Mississippi State recently canceled a two-game series originally set for 2028 and 2029 without incurring a penalty, citing a change in the SEC scheduling model. Additionally, North Carolina State exercised a buyout option for a 2027 game that was scheduled to take place in Lubbock. Texas Tech also opted out of a 2027 road game against North Texas.
The Red Raiders currently have two non-conference home games lined up for each of the years 2027, 2028, and 2029. For 2027, those opponents are Arkansas-Pine Bluff and New Mexico. The 2028 slate includes Stephen F. Austin and Wyoming, while the 2029 home games feature Incarnate Word and Missouri State.
