Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones suggested the team could spend money on roster improvements as injuries raise questions about the defense before the team’s Sept. 27 game against the Baltimore Ravens in Rio de Janeiro.
Jones made the comments after Dallas defeated the Washington Commanders and later addressed the possibility of a trade or other additions during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan. He said he would be willing to improve the team financially and described the Cowboys as having the foundation of a team he views optimistically.
Jones also praised defensive tackles Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark, calling them important pieces in the middle of the defense. Williams was described by Jones as one of the league’s top players, while Clark was recognized for his sustained performance.
Dallas could be without cornerback Cobie Durant and safety PJ Locke for multiple weeks. Durant is dealing with a hamstring strain, and Locke has a torn plantar fascia in his foot. Coach Brian Schottenheimer said the Cowboys have not determined whether either player will go on injured reserve.
He said Locke’s injury could begin healing more quickly after the tissue fully tears, although it is expected to be painful initially.
Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who has a hamstring strain, and safety Malik Hooker, who has a broken forearm, have not been cleared to return. Their status could be listed as questionable or doubtful on the team’s first official injury report, which was due Sept. 23.
