Jaden Craig’s position atop TCU’s quarterback depth chart is under scrutiny after the Horned Frogs fell 21-13 to Central Florida in Orlando. TCU is 2-2 overall and 0-2 against Power Four teams. Both programs opened Big 12 play in the game. TCU committed 11 penalties totaling 86 yards, finished with two fewer turnovers than UCF and averaged 1.2 yards per rushing attempt.
The loss altered plans for TCU’s Oct. 3 home matchup with No. 9 BYU. The Horned Frogs had hoped to reach 4-0 and bring ESPN’s “College GameDay” to Fort Worth, but they are averaging 11.5 points per game through the first month. Craig, a transfer from Harvard, has thrown for 485 yards on 45 completions in 72 attempts against North Carolina and UCF.
He has two interceptions and no touchdown passes. Sacks included, his rushing total in those games is 10 attempts for minus-38 yards. The report said receivers have provided limited help, while Craig has had difficulty creating plays when pressure disrupts the pocket.
Sophomore Adam Schobel has one pass this season and did not appear as a freshman in 2025. Craig signed with TCU for more money than Schobel, making any change a financial and personnel matter. Craig could start against BYU, with Schobel potentially taking his first start at Baylor on Oct. 17, after a bye week and two weeks of possible first-team work.
Sonny Dykes has previously turned to Max Duggan after Chandler Morris’ 2022 injury and Josh Hoover after Morris was injured at Iowa State in 2023. Hoover held the job through the end of the 2025 regular season.
