A former assistant men's basketball coach at Baylor University, Jared Nuness, has accepted a two-year show-cause order from the NCAA after admitting to extensive sports betting violations. The NCAA's findings indicate that Nuness placed approximately 3,400 bets totaling around $38,000 between December 29, 2020, and November 28, 2025, while he was part of the coaching staff at Baylor.
The investigation into Nuness began in November 2025 when a third-party sports wagering monitoring system flagged his betting activities. Following this, Baylor conducted an internal investigation and reported its findings to the NCAA in December 2025, leading to a joint investigation.
In February 2026, Nuness acknowledged to the NCAA that he violated its rules by placing bets on professional sports through two online sportsbooks. He also admitted to allowing his minor son access to these betting accounts, which resulted in the child placing three bets on NCAA Division I men’s basketball games, totaling $170. However, none of these wagers involved Baylor University or its student athletes.
The NCAA classified Nuness' actions as a Level II-Standard violation. As part of the resolution, he is required to complete significant sports betting education and provide similar education to his colleagues. Additionally, Nuness received a 10 percent suspension from all athletically related activities, equivalent to a three-game suspension, along with a public reprimand and censure.
