The Dallas Cowboys have secured veteran linebacker Von Miller on a one-year contract as they look to bolster their defense for the upcoming season. Miller, who has been a key player in the NFL for 14 seasons, previously recorded nine sacks in 2025 while playing for the Washington Commanders.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed confidence in Miller's abilities, highlighting his football intelligence and quickness despite his age of 37. Schottenheimer noted that while Miller may not participate in every play, his presence will still enhance the team's defensive performance. "He understands the game; the football intellect is top tier," Schottenheimer stated, emphasizing Miller's strategic approach and array of skills.
In his last season, Miller participated in 17 games but started only three, contributing to 37 percent of the Commanders' defensive snaps. In Dallas, it is anticipated that he will have a similar role, likely coming in during critical situations such as third downs, while younger players like Rashan Gary and Donovan Ezeiruaku handle early downs.
Miller, who was drafted second overall in 2011, has established himself as one of the premier defenders in NFL history. He won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award after his first season and was named Super Bowl MVP in 2015 while playing for the Denver Broncos. He also secured another Super Bowl title with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021.
