The Dallas Cowboys have finalized a trade that sends offensive tackle Nate Thomas to the Houston Texans in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
Nate Thomas, 25, was originally selected by the Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2024 draft from Louisiana. After spending his rookie season on injured reserve, he played in all 17 games during the 2025 season, starting four of them primarily at left tackle. However, during training camp, he worked as a swing tackle, indicating his versatility on the offensive line.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer previously indicated that Thomas was in competition with Tyler Guyton for the starting left tackle position. As training camp progressed, Schottenheimer noted that Guyton would remain with the first-team offense, citing the need for Thomas to demonstrate more consistent performance.
The Cowboys have been active in adjusting their offensive line, having recently acquired tackle Broderick Jones from the Pittsburgh Steelers, who can also play on both sides of the line. Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones mentioned that there is a strategic plan in place for the offensive tackle position as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
With the roster deadline approaching for teams to finalize their 53-man rosters, the Cowboys' offensive tackle group now includes Tyler Guyton, Terence Steele, Broderick Jones, and fourth-round pick Drew Shelton. The deadline for this roster decision is set for 5:00 p.m. CT.
