Adding to the excitement of game week, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones discussed potential roster changes during an appearance on his radio show. Following recent contract restructures that freed up $19 million in salary cap space, Jones indicated that the team has the resources to pursue a trade.
"We're in play, and that's the best way to describe it," Jones stated regarding the possibility of adding to the roster.
Jones specified that any trade would likely focus on bolstering the defense, despite the team's busy offseason that included hiring a new defensive coordinator, drafting two defenders in the first round, and signing or trading for four additional starters. The Cowboys restructured contracts for defensive tackle Kenny Clark, cornerback DaRon Bland, and tight end Jake Ferguson, allowing for increased financial flexibility.
While Jones did not confirm whether the contract changes were directly linked to his trade discussions, he acknowledged the timing of the cap space creation. He noted that the Cowboys could utilize this financial room to enhance the current roster.
