The Dallas Cowboys have made significant roster changes, resulting in the release of cornerback Josh Butler after three seasons with the team. Butler, who joined the Cowboys in 2023 after navigating through two spring football leagues, expressed his gratitude and determination on social media following the announcement of his departure.
In his statement, Butler highlighted his performance during his time with the Cowboys, stating, "Ayee at the end of the day! My entire time with the Cowboys I've never given up a single touchdown preseason or regular season or a pass over 20 yards."
He emphasized his comeback from a lengthy absence from football, saying he accomplished the 'impossible' by rekindling his career after four years out of college.
During the preseason, Butler showcased his skills, recording six tackles and demonstrating his abilities as a shutdown corner. Over the past three years, he participated in six games, primarily in 2024 and 2025, accumulating 26 tackles, five pass deflections, and one sack. However, a significant ACL injury in 2024 limited his participation in the 2025 season.
Despite his solid preseason performance, Butler faced stiff competition at the cornerback position, which ultimately led to his release. The Cowboys may still consider him for their practice squad, as he has proven to be a valuable depth player when on the field.
