The Houston Texans recently made a significant addition to their wide receiver corps by trading with the New England Patriots for Kayshon Boutte. The Patriots, looking to move on from Boutte as he was unlikely to receive a contract extension following his rookie deal, sent him to the Texans in exchange for a seventh-round pick and safety Jayden Reed.
This trade comes after the Texans' second-year wide receiver Jayden Higgins suffered a torn ACL during practice, creating an immediate need for depth at the position. Boutte, who was available on the trade market, is expected to help fill this gap for the upcoming season at a relatively low cost.
Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans addressed the trade for the first time after a recent joint practice with the Carolina Panthers. Ryans emphasized the value Boutte brings to the team, particularly in light of Higgins' injury. "Adding Kayshon is a big get for us," Ryans stated.
He acknowledged the challenge of replacing Higgins but highlighted Boutte's proven ability to make plays during his time with the Patriots.
Boutte, a sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has been a reliable pass-catcher, finishing the 2025 season with 33 receptions, 551 yards, and six touchdowns. His performance contributed to the Patriots' Super Bowl appearance that year, marking his second consecutive season with over 30 catches and 500 yards.
Ryans noted that Boutte is a young player with potential for growth and expressed excitement about working with him.
