Baylor University quarterback DJ Lagway is currently considered day-to-day with an ankle injury as the team prepares for their upcoming game against Prairie View A&M. Head coach Dave Aranda indicated that Lagway's status will be determined based on his performance in practice leading up to the game.
In his debut for Baylor, Lagway completed 27 of 54 passes for 333 yards, achieving two touchdowns and one interception. Despite his efforts, the Bears lost to Auburn in a close 17-16 match, failing to convert a two-point conversion attempt at the end of the game.
Auburn's head coach, Alex Golesh, praised Lagway's toughness, noting that he played through an injury. Golesh remarked on Lagway's resilience, stating, "If you’ve got any question on how tough that kid is... he got banged up early, and that is a tough, tough football player."
Lagway, who transferred to Baylor from the University of Florida, was previously regarded as a highly ranked prospect. He started for the Gators under head coach Billy Napier but entered the transfer portal following Napier's dismissal. Lagway's time at Florida included a promising start, but he faced challenges, including injuries and a difficult season that ended with a 4-8 record for the Gators.
Florida football legend Tim Tebow expressed support for Lagway, suggesting that he needed a fresh start away from the pressures he faced at Florida. Tebow emphasized Lagway's talent and likability, predicting that a new environment would allow him to play with more joy and reach his full potential.
