The Houston Texans have provided an update on the recovery of wide receiver Tank Dell, who is currently on Reserve/Injured with a designation to return. General manager Nick Caserio indicated that Dell is progressing from a severe knee injury that sidelined him for the entire 2025 season, but emphasized that the team is not rushing his return for Week 5.
Dell suffered a dislocated kneecap along with significant ligament damage, including tears to his ACL, MCL, and LCL, during a game against Kansas City in December 2024. As a result of this injury, he must miss at least the first four games of the regular season.
Caserio noted that while Dell is closer to returning than he was at the start of training camp, he still has work to do before he can safely participate in a game.
Caserio highlighted that Dell has shown improvement in his quickness, change-of-direction skills, and reliable hands on shorter routes. However, the Texans are particularly focused on his ability to regain his top-end speed, which is crucial for his playing style. Dell, who stands at 5-foot-10 and weighs 165 pounds, relies on his acceleration and agility rather than physical dominance over defenders.
Before his injury, Dell had established himself as a key offensive player for the Texans, recording 98 receptions for 1,376 yards and 10 touchdowns over his first two seasons. His speed and route-running ability significantly impacted opposing defenses, creating space for his teammates.
