The New England Patriots made a significant roster move on Monday by trading wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans. In exchange, the Patriots received Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round draft pick in 2028.
Boutte, who is in the final year of his rookie contract, found himself in a crowded receiving group after the Patriots added AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs. Other receivers in the mix include DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism, making it difficult for Boutte to secure a spot.
Patriots coach Mike Vrabel explained that the trade was a logical decision, providing Boutte with a better opportunity to play rather than remaining on the sidelines in New England. He noted that without injuries, Boutte might not have seen game action, as he did not contribute on special teams.
In his previous season, Boutte appeared in 14 games, recording 33 receptions for 551 yards and a career-high six touchdowns. Despite the trade, Vrabel expressed respect for Boutte, acknowledging his maturity and growth as a player.
