Von Miller, a native of DeSoto and a former Texas A&M standout, has signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys valued at $5.5 million, which could increase to $7.5 million through performance incentives. This move allows Miller to fulfill his dream of playing for his hometown team.
At 37 years old, Miller demonstrated his ability to contribute last season, recording nine sacks in 2025. His extensive experience includes being a two-time Super Bowl champion, a seven-time All-Pro, and an eight-time Pro Bowler, with a career total of 138.5 sacks and 27 forced fumbles across 203 games.
His addition is expected to enhance the Cowboys' linebacker depth, although it may not be the major trade some anticipated for improving the pass rush.
The Cowboys are expected to carry six outside linebackers (OLBs) on their active roster this season, with two additional players on the practice squad. Currently, Rashan Gary and Donovan Ezeiruaku are projected as the starters, while Miller and Malachi Lawrence are anticipated to serve as primary backups.
James Houston is also likely to secure a spot as the fifth OLB, having contributed significantly on special teams last season.
The competition for the final OLB position includes Sam Williams, a second-round pick from 2022, and Marist Liufau, a third-round pick in 2024. Both players have shown their value on special teams, with Liufau's versatility potentially giving him an edge over Williams.
