Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams expressed optimism about the team's progress, stating that the growth has been significant compared to last year. Williams remarked, "The growth, it's like night and day," emphasizing the benefits of facing a strong offense during practice. He noted that while there is still work to be done, the mindset and leadership within the team have transformed positively.
In the previous season, the Cowboys struggled defensively, ranking last in the NFL in several categories, including opponent passing yards and points allowed. The team finished 2025 under defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, who has since been replaced by Christian Parker, the former passing game coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles. This marks Parker's first role as an NFL defensive coordinator.
Williams, a four-time Pro Bowler and 2022 All-Pro, recently signed a three-year, $105.9 million contract extension. He joined the Cowboys during the 2025 season after being traded from the New York Jets, where he recorded 2.5 sacks and three forced fumbles over 15 games.
The Cowboys have also made several key acquisitions to bolster their defense, including safety Jalen Thompson and cornerback Cobie Durant, as well as linebacker Rashan Gary from the Green Bay Packers. In the 2026 NFL Draft, they selected safety Caleb Downs and linebacker Malachi Lawrence to further enhance their roster.
