Hoover's exit follows a regular season where TCU achieved an 8-4 record, raising initial hopes for a strong performance in the Big 12 championship and potential NFL draft opportunities.
Before Hoover's announcement, TCU's personnel team had already started identifying quarterback prospects, not foreseeing his departure. General manager Ryan Dorchester mentioned that Hoover was considered a crucial player for the upcoming season, and there were no indications he would leave Fort Worth. Nonetheless, the team began scouting quarterbacks as a precautionary measure in case he decided to enter the NFL draft.
The Horned Frogs are particularly interested in acquiring an upperclassman with one year of eligibility left, as they see high school signee Adam Schobel as their long-term solution at quarterback. Following the confirmation of Hoover's transfer, TCU swiftly signed Jaden Craig, a former zero-star recruit who excelled at Harvard for two seasons.
Dorchester first became aware of Craig while analyzing film of a previous Harvard receiver, describing him as decisive and efficient with a strong arm.
Although Hoover had a solid season, he did not generate notable NFL draft interest, leading TCU's coaching staff to believe he would stay with the team. However, head coach Sonny Dykes noticed a shift in Hoover's attitude as the season concluded, suggesting that a transfer could be on the horizon.
