Texas Christian University (TCU) has reinstated the media credentials for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, concluding a dispute that arose from a locker room incident involving former TCU safety Jacob Fields and wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma.
The altercation occurred on August 13, resulting in Fields' dismissal from the team and his arrest for aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. Ezukanma sustained significant injuries, including a brain bleed and concussion, which required a three-day hospitalization. TCU indicated that both parties had productive discussions and agreed to move forward.
The decision to revoke the Star-Telegram's credentials had garnered attention, particularly as more serious details about the altercation emerged. Athletic director Mike Buddie raised concerns that the reporting had created a harmful narrative, leading to threats against Fields and his family.
Although the Star-Telegram was initially barred from covering TCU athletic events, their reporter still managed to attend the season opener against North Carolina in Dublin without official credentials.
With the credentials restored, TCU aims to shift focus back to the football season, although the legal matters surrounding Fields and Ezukanma's health remain unresolved, and questions about the incident continue to linger.
