The Houston Texans have made a trade to acquire wide receiver Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots. Boutte announced the agreement on social media prior to any official team announcements. Reports indicate that Houston sent safety Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round draft pick for 2028 to New England in the deal.
This acquisition comes in response to an injury to Texans' wide receiver Jayden Higgins, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during a joint practice with the Las Vegas Raiders. Higgins was expected to play a significant role alongside star receiver Nico Collins, having recorded 41 receptions for 525 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie last season.
Kayshon Boutte, selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, had a productive season last year, recording 33 receptions for 551 yards and six touchdowns. His arrival adds depth to the Texans' receiving corps, which has been affected by Higgins' injury.
The Patriots had a surplus of wide receivers following their recent trades, including acquiring A.J. Brown in June and signing Romeo Doubs to a four-year, $68 million contract in March. In addition to Boutte, the Texans also signed veteran receivers Zay Jones and Sterling Shepard over the weekend as they seek to address the impact of Higgins' absence.
