The Houston Texans have finalized their roster, reducing their player count from 90 to 53 as they prepare for their Week 1 matchup against the Buffalo Bills. This decision has clarified some aspects of the team but has also raised new questions regarding their lineup and strategy moving forward.
One significant question is whether the Texans will sign an additional quarterback to their practice squad. Currently, the team has two quarterbacks, C.J. Stroud and Davis Mills, on the active roster. Veteran Brett Rypien was released during the cuts, leaving Houston's quarterback situation potentially open for changes in the coming weeks as other veterans become available on the market.
Another point of uncertainty revolves around the tight end position. The Texans have five tight ends on their roster, including Brevin Jordan, who was recently added back. However, only four are expected to be active for the game against the Bills.
Jordan, who has been dealing with a leg injury, is likely to be the inactive player for Week 1, although he may see action later in the season.
Additionally, the Texans will begin the season without two key offensive players, wide receiver Tank Dell and offensive tackle Braden Smith, both of whom have been placed on injured reserve. This move will keep them sidelined for at least four games, and their return will depend on their recovery progress.
