Houston Texans defensive end Ali Gaye has encountered a significant setback after suffering a major knee injury during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers. The injury was confirmed by an MRI, which indicated that Gaye will need a medical procedure and a lengthy recovery period, according to reports from KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson on August 27.
Gaye, a 27-year-old former LSU player who signed with the Texans as an undrafted free agent in 2023, previously played for the Tennessee Titans before rejoining Houston this year. He has recorded a total of nine tackles and one sack in his career.
Initially expected to provide depth behind starters Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter, Gaye's injury adds to the growing list of injured players on the Texans roster, particularly among defensive ends.
This development is particularly disappointing for Gaye, who is now expected to miss the entire 2026 season. The Texans, who are aiming for a strong performance this season, now face renewed concerns regarding their depth at the defensive end position.
The injury occurred around the same time as Texans offensive tackle Braden Smith suffered a foot injury, which is anticipated to sideline him for a few weeks.
