The Houston Texans are facing challenges as they prepare for the 2026 season, particularly after wide receiver Jayden Higgins suffered a torn ACL during training camp. This injury has resulted in Higgins being placed on injured reserve, leaving the Texans in need of additional support at the wide receiver position.

With Higgins out for the season, the Texans are looking to bolster their receiving corps, especially as Jaylin Noel and Tank Dell are also dealing with injuries. In response to the situation, the Texans have begun evaluating potential free agent wide receivers, specifically targeting Josh Reynolds and Zay Jones.

Higgins was expected to play a significant role as the Texans' No. 2 wide receiver, following a strong performance in training camp. Now, the team is considering options to fill the gap left by his absence. While Noel, Dell, and Xavier Hutchinson could potentially step up, the Texans are actively seeking further reinforcements.

Josh Reynolds, who previously played for the Detroit Lions, recorded 40 receptions for 608 yards and five touchdowns in 2023. Zay Jones, known for his time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, had 82 catches for 823 yards and five touchdowns in 2022. Both players have faced difficulties in recent seasons, making their potential addition more of a gamble than a guaranteed fix.

Reports indicate that the Texans are conducting workouts for free agent receivers, with Reynolds and Jones emerging as early candidates. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler noted the team's interest, emphasizing the need for a reliable pass catcher in light of Higgins' injury.

The Texans' strategy appears to focus on relying heavily on Hutchinson, Noel, and Dell, alongside standout receiver Nico Collins. While other options may arise, Reynolds and Jones currently lead the list of potential signings as the Texans navigate the challenges posed by Higgins' season-ending injury.
