The Houston Texans are facing challenges as they prepare for their preseason matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders on August 20. The team recently lost wide receiver Jayden Higgins to a torn ACL, sidelining him for the entire season. This injury significantly impacts the offense, which is led by quarterback C.J.

Stroud, who is looking to improve after a decline in performance over the past two seasons.

Despite the setback, Stroud is expected to participate in the game, playing a few series, potentially up to 25 plays. The first-string offensive line will also start, while the first-team defense will not take the field. This decision comes as the Texans aim to solidify their offensive strategy amidst ongoing uncertainties.

With Higgins out, Stroud will lean on wide receiver Nico Collins, who had a strong season last year with 71 receptions for 1,117 yards and six touchdowns. Additionally, the Texans will look for contributions from Tank Dell, Xavier Hutchinson, and Jaylin Noel. Dell, who had previously established good chemistry with Stroud, missed last season due to injury.

Noel, drafted shortly after Higgins in 2025, was college teammates with him at Iowa State.

Further details on the Texans' overall strategy and adjustments to their lineup remain unclear as they head into the game against the Raiders.
