Texas offensive lineman Cole Hutson has regained a temporary court order that could allow him to play for the Longhorns this season, according to sports.yahoo.com. The ruling came from Judge Maria Cantu Hexel of Austin’s 53rd District Court, as reported by Chip Brown of Horns247.
Hutson was previously considered ineligible for reasons unrelated to the ruling in his case. Head coach Steve Sarkisian said Sept. 7 that Hutson was working through an NCAA-related matter.
The timing of the court decision leaves it unclear whether Hutson will be available for Texas’ Southeastern Conference opener against Tennessee in Knoxville on Saturday. Sarkisian is scheduled to meet with local media Thursday and could provide more information about Hutson’s status.
Texas has received contributions from both guard positions while Hutson’s eligibility was being addressed. Dylan Sikorski, a transfer from Oregon State, has taken the starting role at left guard, despite expectations during fall camp that Laurence Seymore, a transfer from Western Kentucky, would win the position.
