Houston added four-star power forward Triston Hawthorne to its 2027 recruiting class with his commitment on Sept. 17. The Cougars now have four four-star recruits, each ranked among the top 100 in the class, and 247Sports currently lists Houston’s group as the nation’s top 2027 class.
Hawthorne is 6 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds. The Ellisville, Mississippi, prospect is rated the state’s top player by 247Sports and ranks 15th among power forwards nationally in the 247 Composite. He is also listed as the No. 80 overall player in the class.
Houston was one of three Power Four programs to offer Hawthorne, along with Ole Miss and Mississippi State. He visited Houston on Aug. 20, followed by trips to LSU on Sept. 5 and Harvard on Sept. 8. Hawthorne attended South Jones High School.
His production has centered on defense and rebounding. Hawthorne averaged 10.8 rebounds and four offensive rebounds per game, along with 4.3 blocks. His 7-foot-2 wingspan and athleticism give him a presence around the basket and allow him to defend across the court, according to the report.
Hawthorne remains a developing offensive player, but he has been effective near the rim and has taken most of his shots in the paint. He can also contribute from the dunker’s spot and has made about 60% of his free throws. The report said he may add muscle after joining Houston.
