Duran’s ninth-inning double carries Rangers past Giants 5-4

Duran delivers in the ninth

Duran hit a ground-rule double in the bottom of the ninth inning, scoring Burger and giving the Texas Rangers a 5-4 win over the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Globe Life Field.

The decisive hit capped a four-RBI game for Duran, whose run-scoring hits accounted for four of Texas' five runs. Seager advanced to third on the final scoring play, which came after San Francisco had tied the game in the top of the ninth.

Texas builds the early lead

Texas took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Nimmo doubled to right, scoring Pederson and moving Seager to third. Duran followed with a single to right that brought in Seager and moved Nimmo to third.

MacKenzie Gore kept San Francisco off the board across six innings for Texas. He allowed three hits and three walks and struck out four. For San Francisco, Blade Tidwell allowed two earned runs on six hits over five innings, with one walk and three strikeouts.

Giants answer, Rangers go back ahead

San Francisco tied it in the seventh on the game's only home run: Basabe homered to left, a 377-foot shot that scored Gilbert. The Rangers went back in front in the eighth when Duran doubled to right, scoring Langford and Seager and moving Nimmo to third for a 4-2 lead.

Jason Foley pitched one inning for San Francisco with no hits, walks or earned runs. JT Brubaker worked one inning with no hits, one earned run, one walk and no strikeouts.

Reiver Sanmartin allowed one earned run on three hits in two-thirds of an inning, with one walk and one strikeout, and Adrian Houser recorded one-third of an inning without a hit, walk, earned run or strikeout.

Ninth-inning tie falls short

The Giants pulled even in the top of the ninth when Eldridge singled to right, scoring Gilbert and McCray. Texas answered in the bottom half on Duran's ground-rule double.

Robby Ahlstrom pitched one inning for Texas without allowing a hit, walk or earned run and struck out two. Peyton Gray recorded one-third of an inning with one strikeout and no hits, walks or earned runs. Jacob Latz (3-1) was credited with the win despite a blown save, allowing one earned run on two hits and one walk in one inning with one strikeout.

Dylan Smith (0-4) took the loss for San Francisco after allowing one earned run on two hits and one walk in two-thirds of an inning.

The Rangers improved to 56-58, and the Giants fell to 48-66. Attendance was 26,959.
