Quantrill Anchors the Pitching
The Texas Rangers secured a 5-0 victory over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday, August 19, at Globe Life Field in Arlington. Cal Quantrill was the standout performer, pitching seven innings without allowing a run. He struck out five batters and did not walk anyone.
Quantrill took the win, improving his record to 5-4. The Rangers' bullpen maintained the no-hitter threat, with Robby Ahlstrom, Jakob Junis, and Tyler Alexander combining for the final three frames. Ahlstrom pitched two-thirds of an inning, striking out two batters.
Junis retired the side in one-third of an inning with one strikeout, while Alexander finished the game with one strikeout and one walk.
Scoring Sequence Unfolds
The Rangers took an early lead in the first inning. A ground ball by Burger resulted in a double play, but the play allowed Langford to score, giving Arlington a 1-0 advantage. In the second inning, Foscue extended the lead with a home run to left field that traveled 400 feet.
The Rangers continued their offensive pressure in the third inning, scoring three more runs. Nimmo grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Langford to score. Foscue then drew a walk, scoring Seager.
Finally, Freeman reached on an infield single, bringing in Nimmo to make it 5-0. Washington did not score a single run during the contest.
