Starting Jan. 2, a single membership will get McKinney residents into all three of the city's recreation centers, replacing the separate passes each building has sold for years.
The City Council approved the new structure and rates Tuesday, Nov. 3, according to the city's meeting records. It covers the Recreation Center at Towne Lake, Old Settlers Recreation Center and the Senior Recreation Center.
Why the change
In a staff report, Parks and Recreation Director Amy Kinkade wrote that each center had built up its own rates, pass types, eligibility rules and perks over time, leaving a system that was hard for both customers and employees to follow. Members had also asked to be able to use their passes at more than one center.
The city has kept memberships relatively inexpensive to keep the centers accessible, the report says, and the new rates are meant to stay affordable while better matching the price to access at three buildings.
